As I slowly sunk into a common depression and anxiety for the future of cinema I realized that something magical, yes, magical was taking place. The film was sentient.Yes. Thank you Harold and Sarah for ruining it for everyone you too Robert Reiner. Girl is cute with sassy ambitions, boy is lost with secret passions, and the film is set in. Boy meets girl, looses, and then obtains her again. Because I'm not a peon who likes to read coloring books. At first glance which is always blind said Virgil this is your pedestrian romantic comedy.

Interest peaked, I shelled out the $6.99 USD to Amazon LLC and had the film screened to my color balanced Sony 25" Trimaster EL OLED Master Monitor. īe watched only in the back of a taxi cab on the way to a long day of jury duty in Jackson Heights, Queens. If you don't feel like any of those things I said and probably hate me because we love to hate things on the internet, you can go about your day because these aren't the droids you're looking for. If you feel like reading more of my rants, ramblings, geek references, bad jokes, and other movies reviews like a more in-depth, totally gushing look at "They Came Together" and other films that would be improved if Showalter and Wain wrote the script, you can visit my blog at. I just loved this film and hated absolutely nothing about it.Greetings! My name is Rev. Michael Showalter and David Wain wrote a wickedly entertaining break down of the romantic comedy genre that proves that satire and parody is more than just some fart jokes, a guy hurting himself, and dated pop culture references that it was sadly becoming. Sometimes the jokes are smart, always they are witty, occasionally they get super silly, and, on a few occasions, the film gets vulgar and offensive with its humor but, the point is, the film never stopped with its comedy and never rested on a formula that was the same thing over and over again. The jokes are a mixed bunch that results in a film that I never found boring or repetitive. Each and every player is bringing the script to life and making the film something that made my sides burst. From the moment it started until the time it ended heck, even a day later as I'm writing this, I'm still laughing at the scenes that are playing on repeat in my brain, "They Came Together" had me rolling on the floor. Wain is going for comedy overkill with a vengeance. To the minor appearances from Kenan Thompson, Christopher Meloni, Ken Marino, and Jack McBrayer to the more lengthy appearances of Bill Hader, Ellie Kemper, Jason Mantzoukas and more even two great cameos at the end are just-I hesitate to use the slang "killing it" but are just killing it on screen. Wain, who wrote the script with Michael Showalter, displays little interest in nuance, even as a principle of storytelling equilibrium. Poehler’s ability to let you see the vulnerability timorously lurking behind her character’s self-seriousness deepens the encounter, never mind that Mr. Poehler look endearingly silly in this get-up.

If that sounds mildly amusing, it is, partly because, while almost anyone could squeeze laughs out of a bad bald wig, Mr. And so, like clockwork or a dog-eared screenwriting manual, they meet on their way to a Halloween party for which, in an absurdist touch, each has dressed as Ben Franklin.
Of course, Molly and Joel are destined for each other: They were written that way. If you’ve seen “You’ve Got Mail” (a rip-off of the peerless “Shop Around the Corner”), Molly and Joel’s back stories, love lives and initial antagonisms will be familiar: She’s a lonely gal who runs a tiny no-profit candy store, while he has a feckless girlfriend and works for an all-profit candy conglomerate. Tucked into a darkly lit restaurant - it shrieks candlelight and Katherine Heigl - with Kyle (Bill Hader) and Karen (Ellie Kemper), Molly and Joel recount how they met cute, fell in love and what went wrong or maybe right, not that it matters.

Rudd play Molly and Joel, a couple who, when the movie opens, are planning to split up. Wain has some expert help with his demolition work, namely his stars, Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, who with another dozen or so cutups, embody assorted romantic comedy stereotypes with wide smiles, seasoned technique and unfettered spleen.

In “They Came Together,” a sloppy, fitfully funny broadside at the romantic comedy, the director David Wain goes after that oft-abused genre with a metaphoric jackhammer - as well as a bat, a machete, a couple of knives, one or two missiles and the sort of sizzling cartoon bomb that Wile E.
